Cauliflower & chick peas

Serves 4 people


  • 1 cauliflower, trimmed and divided into florets
  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 can of chick peas
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • 1 green chili chopped
  • salt and black pepper
  • splash of olive oil

the sauce

  • 1 cup of plain yoghurt
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • grated zest of 1 lemon
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • salt and black pepper


In a large pan cook the mustard seeds in hot olive oil for a minute or two. Then add the rest of the spices and garlic. Add the cauliflower and diced tomatoes. If it seems too dry add a splash of water. Cook on a medium heat for 10 minutes, then add the chick peas. Simmer gently for another 10 minutes or until the cauliflower is soft.

To make the sauce combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Serve it as a side to the cauliflower and chick peas.
